In case you haven’t noticed, teaching is stressful! Stress causes all of us to react. We all have “triggers” that cause us to react emotionally to situations. Some of these triggers are universal. Some are unique to each of us based on our own life experiences. To prevent the burnout that can come from the day- after-day stress of our jobs and compassion fatigue caused by continuously dealing with challenging behaviors, we have to be able to identify our own emotional triggers and the strategies that will help us stay calm and emotionally regulated in the face of stress. Just like the flight attendants remind us, we also have to put on our own oxygen masks before we can help anyone else. This workshop with help participants learn their own triggers, develop “emergency” self-care strategies, and create a long-term plan for emotional well-being.
