T&L: Diversity in Literature FILLING

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity filling up

Students and readers of all ages need to see themselves in the books they read. They also need to see perspectives from characters who are different from themselves so that our students may become more empathetic and inclusive to all people in our global society.  In this session, we will discuss the significance of offering and celebrating books with diversity in literature in everything from picture books to Young Adult novels.  The presenters will provide book talks on specific titles so teachers may encourage their students to read books featuring characters of color, characters from various cultures, and characters with different lifestyles.  The presenters will also discuss how programs like the Global Read Aloud and Project Lit can empower our learners to become culturally aware and inclusive of others.  You will not want to miss this interactive session that highlights current diverse literature, #ownvoices authors, and, most of all, examines how the best books are those that serve as mirrors and windows.
